A month prior to the actual TEDx event we have a teaser event called "Theme Reveal". During which we announce the theme for the year, to the students, faculty and the our social media followers.

The Three X were placed separately at different locations around college a few hours before the theme reveal, to act as hints to the theme.

Concept:

  • I painted the X on the extreme left to show as though it was on fire, which symbolizes "standing strong even through the fire" i.e. resilience

  • The X on the extreme right shows flowers blooming through it cracks, which is aims to show that "nothing can stop you from blooming" i.e. resilience.

  • The X in the center is the classic representation of TEDx.

Theme Reveal

How we made it: The panels were made with corrugated sheet, painted with acrylics and the word resilience was made with waste white foam sheets and painted white.

The three panels were opened one by one at the cheer of the crowd and the theme for the third edition was revealed.

Interactive game

Two days before the Theme Reveal a core committee meeting was held to discuss the plan for the theme reveal.

During the meeting we also found that an interactive element was missing, something that would engage the crowd and would also create a hype for the TEDx event.

Concept Idea:

Since we already had the wooden frames from SymBiz and some extra crape paper, I came up with the idea to use what we have and create a ball game. It was something similar to what we find at fun fares, where you take an aim and hit the target. If your shot is successful then you win a prize.

A third use of the same wooden frame to make an interactive game, to keep the crowd engaged.

How we made it:

  • We had a pre made wooden frame (8'x7') that we had used for an earlier event called Symbiz. The fame has horizontal and vertical wood paneling after every 1', which creates multiple rectangular shapes.

  • On each rectangle we stuck a cut out of Crepe Paper in either green, pink or white colour. Only the Green and Pink paper had words on them (that relate to resilience) and the white was left blank.

Only a player who successfully hits the green or pink panel wins a Red Bull can. This was also a way to show that with qualities such as empathy, perseverance you win at life.
